| Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate CARES, the charitable arm of Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate, presented a $1,500 donation to the Central Florida Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), the leading national not-for-profit organization exclusively dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education and advocacy, and to reaching out to people with mental disorders and those impacted by suicide. The chapter serves Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Seminole, Sumter and Volusia Counties. Jean Chalifour, CARES representative and sales associate at the Orlando Office and Sheila Mathews, sales associate at the Orlando office, presented the check to Wendy Cuomo and Vicki Horton, AFSP representatives.
ìWe are so thankful for the efforts that Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate has made,î said Cuomo. ìEvery contribution helps to expand our assistance to people whose lives have been affected by suicide, reach out to offer support and offer opportunities to become involved in prevention. With a suicide attempt estimated to occur every minute of every day in the United States and over 32,000 lives lost each year, and in 2007 in Florida, 2570 individuals, the importance of our foundationís mission has never been greater, nor our work more urgent.î
"This generous contribution will be used to bring the More Than Sad: Teen Depression project to our local community school districts," said Dudek, AFSP Central Florida Chapter Chair. "Two new videos are part of this project, one for teens and the other for teachers. We bring this education to our young people and school personnel as suicide is the third leading cause of death of our youth, ages 15 - 24."
ìWe are very proud to contribute to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention because we appreciate and respect what they do in our communities and support their mission,î said Chalifour.
