The first-time homebuyer tax credit is available to first-time homebuyers, an individual who has not owned a home within the past three years. The maximum credit amount through this federal tax program is $7,500. The credit is available for homes purchased on or after April 9, 2008 and before July 1, 2009. Single taxpayers with incomes up to $75,000 and married couples with incomes up to $150,000 qualify for the full tax credit. The tax credit works like an interest-free loan and must be repaid over a 15-year period.
"Right now is the perfect time for first-time homebuyers to get into the market. However, we recognize that newcomers need more information to help them make that important first step toward realizing their dream of owning their first home. Additionally many renters aren't aware that they can afford to buy a home. At our first-time homebuyers' seminar, we will present what we know are valuable and insightful real estate options," said Sue Wolverton, Regional Senior Vice President, Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate, Southwest Florida.
